Room 12 Studio is a small, elite online math academy led by two credentialed, highly successful classroom teachers. We provide upper-elementary students with rigorous, concept-driven math instruction that emphasizes understanding, reasoning, and confidence, not just memorization. Instruction takes place in intentionally small groups through live lessons taught from a professional teaching studio, using visual models, manipulatives, and proven, research-based practices. How We Teach Math — And Why It Works
At Room 12 Studio, we believe strong math performance comes from understanding why methods work — not simply memorizing steps. Many capable students struggle in upper elementary because they’ve learned procedures without developing a clear sense of numbers, place value, and structure. Our instruction intentionally slows down where it matters most. We use visual models, manipulatives, student reasoning, and guided discussion to help learners build a durable understanding of fractions, decimals, operations, and perseverance in problem solving. This approach allows students to apply what they know flexibly, explain their thinking with confidence, and transfer their learning to new problems — exactly what is required in advanced classrooms and beyond.
